Bright year for Hanoi tourism

Hanoi could attract up to 21.2 million domestic and international tourists this year, up 6.95% from last year.

The performance will be dominated by domestic travel at around 17.4 million, but the Vietnamese capital is fast becoming a popular vacation spot for foreigners and it is likely 3.8 million will visit the city this year.

Both markets should generate an estimated USD2.68 billion in tourism revenue up 8.11% from last year.

Tourism promotions in France, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, China, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia, should encourage more travel bookings.

Hanoi came fourth on the list of the world’s top 25 travel destinations in the 2015 Travellers’ Choice Awards named by the travel review site, TripAdvisor.

Lonely Planet listed Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in the top 10 best-value destinations for 2016.

The well-known guide claimed budget travellers could stay in either city and spend around USD20 per day for food, lodging and sightseeing.
