The house was restored from the end of 1998 and completed on October 27, 1999 in the framework of cooperation between Hanoi City and Toulouse City (France). They keep intact all structures of architecture, construction materials and living things. On February 16, 2004, the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) signed a decision to recognize 87 Ma May as a National Heritage.

Currently, Ma May House becomes an information and propaganda site to introduce people and visitors about the Vietnamese ancient house. Tourists coming to visit the house will get a better understanding of Hanoi old people life. This is also the place to introduce and suggest people of ancient architecture of Hanoi.

The house of 87 Ma May is one of 14 old houses in Hanoi built around the end of the nineteenth century. The total area of the house is 157.6m2, built perpendicular to the street, the length of the land is 28m, the width of the facade is 5m and the width of the rear face is 6m.

The house is typical of Hanoi’s ancient houses, ie in the form of tubular, multi-use. The house is narrow in width but very deep. The inner courtyard seperate the house into blocks. The outer layer is a shop, not a wall, but opens to the street to display goods. Inside there is a loose yard. Next is the backroom, warehouse and kitchen.

Ordinary days, the old house 87 Ma May is open from 8 am – 20 pm to welcome visitors. However, the closing time is later on festival days when people organize events.
